As we mark the great achievements witnessed in women empowerment during this #IWD2023, UMWA continues to strongly advocate for opportunities that offer women equal utilization of the digital innovations and technologies for freedom of expression and enhanced socio-economic empowerment.
With support from the Royal Danish Embassy of Uganda, UMWA is yet again advancing the “Media for Gender Equality and Social Justice-leaving No One Behind” project. This is to address the poor portrayal of women in politics and women at large by the media. This challenge continues to undermine efforts towards growing and sustaining a people centred and inclusive democracy in Uganda.
I have spent quite sometime in the media and served at different levels, but this training has added a big brick on my understanding of media and how it should be organized to cause a positive impact in society. It should not be business as usual. Run to the scene, interview someone or people and go back to the newsroom and expose.
