The Rural Outreach Program

The Rural Outreach Program (ROP) is a response to the long felt marginalization of rural women in the political, economic and social fields. Undertaken in 19 districts of Uganda (Masaka, Mbarara, Kasese, Bundibugyo, Luweero, Mubende, Kiboga, Mbale, Mukono, Soroti, Moroto, Apac, Lira, Gulu, Arua, Kampala, Masindi and Hoima), ROP focuses on the provision and dissemination of information as a major tool for development.

The project is in line with the fundamental right to speak and be heard, it aims at sensitising the community about their rights and developmental issues so that they can meaningfully participate in affairs that affect them. It also aims at giving the rural people especially women an opportunity to say what they feel and need thus the use of participatory training, forming radio listenership clubs, information sharing and networks.
